Creating a Matte for the
DIFFERENCE MATTE Tutorial
Programs Needed:
Adobe Premiere 6.5(also works with earlier versions)
Adobe Photoshop 7.0(may also work with earlier versions)
Description:
In this tutorial you will learn how to use photoshop to create a template of
your background
Download Project and Movie Files-3.47 MB
STEP ONE:
Export frames of your movie.
We are trying to make a still image of your background without the character in
it. This one is very simple because the actor walks from the left to the right
side, but yours may be a little more difficult.
Put the Clip.avi footage into video one. Then right click the footage in the
timeline and select VIDEO OPTIONS> FIELD OPTIONS
In the screen that comes up select ALWAYS DE-INTERLACE.
Next, go to the very first frame of the video and select FILE> EXPORT TIMELINE>
FRAME. Name the file RIGHTSIDE.BMP
Then, go to the very last frame of the video and select FILE> EXPORT TIMELINE>
FRAME. Name the file LEFTSIDE.BMP
Now open photoshop, and open the two BMPs you just created.
Select the RECTANGULAR MARQUEE tool(circled) and select all of the clip to the
left of the actor in RIGHTSIDE.BMP
Push CTRL+C to copy that selection. Then switch over to LEFTSIDE.BMP and press
CTRL+V to paste the selection to this picture.
Next, move that section all the way to the left with the MOVE TOOL, circled
below.
Now your picture should look like this.
Now just go to FILE> SAVE AS and save the file as MATTE.BMP
Now you have the matte you need for the difference matte!
